Paid Attention

A dollar for your thoughts,
though that’s way too expensive.
The only way to get attention
is to have a well-known name.

A quarter for your thoughts,
though people still can’t afford to listen.
All they see is the screen before them,
feeding them lies they want to hear.

A dime for your thoughts,
though that’s asking for too much.
And you can speak them all you want,
but they’ll only go unheard.

A nickel for your thoughts,
though they don’t even cost that much.
So it’s best to just keep to yourself,
because no one cares about what matters.

A penny for your thoughts,
though people won’t think it’s worth it.
It’s only worth it when you’re dead,
but by then it’s too late to talk.
